Most Roo pads come in an unusual color (white or black) and when one pad needs to be replaced, you have to go back to the tech who has that color to match the other pads. Another problem is pad supplies.May 30, 2003 · I bought a tenor Z and was able to hear it against a Keilwerth SX 90R and 1950's vintage Mark VI- all instruments, including the Z, were played by two pro musicians. The Z in my opinion blew the SX90R and the Mark VI away. The Z is on top for resonance and projection. It actually sounds like an amplified horn.

High overtones are more like whistling through the sax than anything else. I have used several Ponzol mouthpieces ( M1 tenor & M2 alto) and particularly the HR Vintage 70 for soprano. This soprano mouthpiece which I've sold with my Curved BW AI, was BY FAR the best soprano mouthpiece that I have ever played.But at least there's no confusion with closed keys as they're opened for specific notes - LH (palm) high D, Eb and F keys, front F key, RH side Bb, C and high E keys, high F# and cross/chromatic/key/side F# or F# key, then G# key, low Eb and low C# keys. And the upper (neck or crook) and lower (body) 8ve keys/vents.

I had a Woodwind Educator, a great big wide open chamber hunk of good hard rubber, but with was dull, stuffy, and lifeless sound and response.It was physically light, and the tone had a focused core with both a pop and a buzz to it (I'm new at describing these things). It felt great. I then tried some new pro tenors (Mauriat, Cannonball, Yamaha YTS-62) and was bored with the sound compared to the YTS-61. The normal (as far as I know) black nickel saxophone finish is an extremely thin layer of actual plating, probably the thinnest of all platings used in sax finishes. It is just thick enough for a uniform layer of color, just barely thicker than a layer of 'tarnish'.
