Go do your research! The L5P has new heads on it that flow much better and a new fuel injection system but the main engine is mainly the same. Main and oil cooling were increased to deal with the extra power. It is a great engine, most Duramax are but it is let down by choking emissions and warranty issues.

L5P Oil Pressure issue. 2019 3500HD 125k miles. I tow a lot with a lot of weight. Last trip low oil pressure warning came up. Pressure running about 28 psi. Pulled over and checked levels, all fine. Good thing I was close to home and pressure stayed 28 or more the whole way. Now at 600 rpm running 15 psi and 90 psi at 3k rpm.

The L5p was a very small exhaust side configuration, small up pipes, small exhaust turbo vanes, etc. So I am guessing the ECM was seeing some very high EGT’s and cut power to keep from melting pistons.
