Been playing Skyrim on my Playstation 5 (therefore the game is fully up to date and no mods are available). The other day I read about the hidden/secret chest near the cave entrance in Dawnstar and to my surprise, I found it! Was able to grab anything I wanted out of it for free, but only snagged a few items at the time.

From its change log: "Moved the Khajiit caravan's merchant chest (74355) which was underground near the Dawnstar mine (8,25) as it could be activated and looted through the ground". #2 ...If possible, I don't wanna go to Dawnstar everytime to loot stuff, because I will have to go by horse again, to go back to Whiterun. I thought I can use the chest outside Solitude, but turns out it wasn't connected to the caravan next to it. So I can't reset it at all. My main house is in Riften. Hi there!!! I'm one of those people who know about the hidden merchant chest in Dawnstar. Once you empty it for the first time, it won't get new stuff until you look at the inventory of the Khajit merchant who shows up just outside of Dawnstar every so often. Vendor chests, like the one in Whiterun (or the invisible chests outside of Dawnstar, Markarth, and Solitude) take a long time to reset. At least 2 weeks in the game, or possibly 30 in-game days. theres two more chests i know of outside of solitude and markarth. though if you're just tryin to get gems it might be easier to just stick with dawnstar and punch reset the kitty when shes there. If you follow the video guide to the T, the chest will refill every 48 hours, sometimes with new stuff in it. I just checked to make sure this works with the latest PC patch. Sure enough, there was an invisible chest filled to the brim with free stuff. This is absolutely awesome for anyone looking for an easy way to get a lot of gold quickly.
