First the background on the two saws: The Husqvarna was brand new with no tanks through it. 20" factory bar with narrow kerf chain. Fuel used was Husqvarna ethanol free XP+ 50:1 mix. The Stihl had about 7 tanks of fuel through it. 18" factory bar with new Stihl .325/.063 standard chain. Put a cup of dry laundry soap in a sock, with zip tie. Pack this with saw. It will absorb any stray vapors. Put saw power head inside 3 or more plastic bags. Thick ones. Pack it well. Put a tag on the saw, "drained, purged, and preped for shipping" with a signature, "saw tech".
Jan 14, 2013. #7. 2188. Good thinking on displacement & bar lengths! I have done a considerable amount of milling with a Jonsereds920 using a 34in bar. You will definitely need all of the power that 87.9cc can give you. the 920 also wore a 24in bar for felling & most bucking. The balance was ideal with the 24in.

Personally I like to run bars that are on the short side of my saws' capability, so I generally run 16" bars on 50cc saws. For a 260 I'd pick a 16" .325 bar unless I was only cutting firewood in which case I might go for 3/8 ...
The 620 has improved intake and exhaust which helps explain why it costs $200.00 more. The Echo 590 can use up to a 24" bar while the Echo 620 can use up to a 28in bar. No one seems to mention the Makita 6100 which is on par with the Echo 620 for power and bar length.
The Sugihara bars have advantages, and disadvantages. They oil quite well and wear slowly. The main differences are the "dished" piston and the much more restricted muffler of the 261. The clutch is also different - weaker on the 261. That saw family consisted of the 154se, 254, 262xp, 254xp, 257 and 261, in order of introduction. By far the longest lasting model was the 262xp, made from 1989 to the late 2000s.

In my opinion the 4620 Poulan is actually a pretty good saw, we sell them at Wal-Mart for $149. As long as you take care of them they will last you a long time as a homeowner use saw. The replacement is a DCS 6421. I looked it over and the only difference is that it has a Catalytic muffler. The only real bad news is pricing. Is it really running perfectly at high speed - to check, find out how many turns out the H screw is, it should be around 1. Believe me, it works, I've repaired a dozen or so saws with it. Attaching that strong spring is a nightmare without it. I once used a cable and pulled it on, but that will not work...Location. Hello all,I'm a new member & this is my first time posting. I just purchased a Stihl MS 261. It came with a 18" green bar and chain. I'm thinking about changing over to a 3/8" yellow bar ( rollmatic) and chain. My question is which type of chain would be best for my purpose and saw. I have a heatmor water stove that I'll be cutting firewood for.Usually for it takes around 100 psi for most 2 cycle to start. Pull the muffler and take a look see at the piston and cylinder for damage or just a stuck ring. You be surprise how many stuck rings I free over the years on trimmers and chainsaws.
