I’m not a guy who buys a new bow every year (sorry Mathews)! I tend to wait until I feel like the technology has advanced to a point that it makes sense to upgrade. That was this year, with the Phase 4-33. I switched from another brand to my first Mathews. I went all in with the entire bridgelock set-up. I have been beyond impressed!I like the Mathew’s phase 4 and Hoyt VTM with the Hoyt feeling slightly better. Mostly based on how it felt drawing back. (PSE with Volvo cam felt great, but getting a Fortis was 8 weeks out for EC 2 cam) They didn’t have a VTM in none camo so I shot the RX 7 ultra and liked how it felt, there were some perks compared to the VTM.#1. They are almost the same bow IMO. The VTM 34 has a true center shot at around 3/4”, in other words the arrow is coming straight out of the bow at that distance. The V Pro 33 was closer to 5/8”. So I much prefer the VTM from that aspect. The VTM also has the hole in the riser for the drop away rest which is nice.However, beginners may benefit more from PSE, thanks to their lower range price options. – Budget: If you have a limited budget, PSE offers more affordable options. I’d go with the Hoyt, from my testing, the Hoyt VTM 31 was faster and quieter than all of the bows I tested. Those bows were the VTM 31, Execute 30, Ominia, Era, Carbon One, and SS 34. It was faster by 5-6 fps, and quieter by 4-5 decibels.Location. UT. This is an opinion based subject so I will give mine. I believe the Mathews binary cam configuration to be far superior to Hoyt's hybrid cam and a half system. The tuning and usability of the binary cam is so user friendly comared to the myriad of issues you can run into with the hybrid cam.
