The Core Item is "Phasezerker" class mod. Doesn't matter what's on it (but matters for best gear of course). For armor I suggest Super Soldier if you want be almost always invulnerable or Re-Volter for best damage output. What's important is to reroll on them the ability to trigger your shield's empty/full ability when casting your class ability.

When I was leveling Amara I went with a full melee build in green tree and just one shot almost everything by punching them. It was tons of fun. Then I got to end game and melee sucked and made me sad. Then I made a ricochet recursion gun build and had tons of fun. Then Gearbox nerfed it and made me sad.
