Feb 12, 2015. #1. I know that some people use the Baofeng UV-5R as a scanner. I am considering getting one to monitor 3 VHF and UHF frequencies while I am out of the car. I am aware that it is a transceiver and I would have to disable the TX ability (transmit inhibit) per channel.
