Island maps are great in that you can generate one where there are no aliens, instead an endless ocean outside your starting island. Just use map preview before starting. Handcraft: there should be a minute spend not crafting useful stuff. Always run arround and rebalance stuff in your buffer chests and insert when lines run short. This is the key to avoiding complicated bus designs and gives you a feel for what you are short off. There should be no smelter or circuit assembler idling, ever.
