2 posts · Joined 2011. #1 · Nov 30, 2011. I tried to start bike this morning, it would turn over but not start. I filled it up on monday and I know it has gas. I am a daily rider. I came home from work yetserday and had no problems. The outside temp was low 50's and I always use the choke to start. Anybody got a clue where to start.I just bought a 1994 Vulcan 1500 Classic with only 4500 miles. I have read and heard of many horror stories. Oil leaking into airbox and carbs , plastic oil pump gears , Second gear issues, cam chains breaking ....I thought these bikes were bullett proof.....I also own a 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale 1300 with 29,000 miles on the clock...I know that is bullett proof engine and very fast too for a ...Usually that takes a few seconds and recommend you don't hit the starter until you hear the fuel pump power up. I have most of it done. I took it to a shop and found out that I had rust in the system. Since then I have cleaned and coated the tank. Cleaned the carbs and all the lines. Found that the gray wire on the ignition switch only had 1 volt on it. There is also a "vehicle-down" sensor (DFI) that acts like a kill switch. It works like a gyro and can detect when the bike is laid flat and kills the motor. If it's faulty (unlikely), has a bad connection or just not fitted level it may be another reason why your bike does't start. It will show as a service code 31.

I was wondering if any of you owners of said year/model can fill me in on any common problems to look for if I do indeed get that bike. Start with the basics. Check the battery connections. Charge the battery. Check the battery voltage right after taking the charger off. Let the bike sit a couple hours. Check the battery voltage again. Check the battery voltage with the bike idling. Check the battery voltage with the rpms up (3,000 rpm or so).

Other than that just regular maintenance as the bike has been flawless. It is the last bike in the 1500 picture thread. Like.
