How to reprogram uverse remote.

My s10-s4 cannot use volume or mute. I have a Sanyo tv and have tried to reprogram the remote with the codes. None work. I have sound, can change channels. The tv has to be turned off by manually hitting the off/on key on the tv. I have tried to reset it using the guides on the tv no luck. Any ideas?
